We are a genre-fluid collective dedicated to translating the history of human thought into visceral, high-energy sonic experiences. We don’t just sing about philosophy, we build musical worlds that physically embody it.
We began in the raw cosmos. First Principles went looking for what the universe is made of, through the elemental fire of Heraclitus (“Everything is Fire“), the rigid logic of Parmenides (“Uncreated Sphere“) and the void of Democritus (“ATOMOS“), driven by Elias Li and Arthur Kings’ electric guitars over Martin Black’s drum machines. From Cosmos to Cave moved into Athens and the drama of a society learning to think for itself, from Socratic inquiry (“I am the Gadfly“) to Platonic idealism (“Form of the Good“), carried by Patty Alex’s strings and the vocals of Arthur Kings and Clara Max. Architects and Wanderers built Aristotle’s machine logic, the “Unmoved Mover” and then tore it down with Calliclean force (“Might Makes Right“), Megarian paradox (“Grain by Grain“) and radical hedonism (“Right Now“), with Aris Vane’s electronic programming mapping the fragmentation of the ancient world.
Demon, God, Nature leaps the gap into the early modern, opening on a man alone in the dark who has decided to doubt everything (“I Think Therefore I Am … Tired“). It runs from the absolute sovereign of Hobbes (“The Mortal God“) to Spinoza’s single substance (“A Proposition: Deus sive Natura“), through a world with no causal power in it at all (“Empty Occasion“) and a mind that starts as a blank page (“The Understanding“). Side two takes it apart again, windowless monads ticking inside the finest available universe (“The Best of All Possible Worlds“), matter dissolving into perception (“Esse est Percipi“), a self that turns out to be nobody (“Nobody In Me“), and a fence that never should have been built (“The Fruits Belong to Everyone“), before Voltaire refuses to argue at all and goes outside to work (“The Best of All Worlds“).
Our mission is to pull the heaviest concepts in history out of the textbooks and onto the stage: loud, kinetic, and impossible to ignore.
